Hopkinsville, Kentucky — Today, Andy Barr, the leading Republican candidate for U.S. Senate officially launched the Andy Barr for Senate Agriculture Advisory Council in Hopkinsville. Barr brought together farmers, agribusiness leaders, and rural advocates from across the Commonwealth to rollout his Ag Advisory Council. The launch event was hosted by Wayne Hunt and the team at H&R Agri-Power, a leading agricultural equipment provider serving Kentucky producers.
“Farmers put food on the table for our families, put thousands of Kentuckians to work, and are the backbone of our Commonwealth. I’m the only candidate in this race with a proven record of fighting and delivering for our farmers. As your next Senator, I’ll keep advancing my Farmers First agenda with President Trump,” said Barr. “President Trump and I will continue to reduce government red-tape, expand access to capital, increase opportunities to new markets, and support our farmers do what they do best: grow. To that end, I’m committed to supporting our farmers and the crops they produce for our Commonwealth and country, including industrial hemp.”
“Andy is the champion for Kentucky energy producers, including our great coal miners, that makes fuel on our farms more affordable. He helped President Trump and I end the death tax on almost 2 million family farms in the Big Beautiful Bill. He will be a great Senator for our farmers in Eastern Kentucky,” said U.S. Congressman Hal Rogers (R-KY-05), the Dean of the House of Representatives who endorsed Barr’s campaign.
“Farmers need a Senator who can hit the ground running. Andy Barr has already shown what he can do for Kentucky’s agricultural industry and will take his work to the next level as our Senator. That’s why I’ve endorsed him to be our next Senator and look forward to working with him,” said Jerry Gilliam, Judge/Executive of Christian County and lifelong farmer.
Barr emphasized his work alongside President Donald Trump to deliver historic tax relief and agricultural investments benefiting family farms and rural businesses. He highlighted the permanent increase of the Death Tax exemption to $30 million for married couples, protections for family-owned farms, expansion of the small business deduction for pass-through entities, and new capital gains incentives designed to help keep farmland in the hands of farmers.
Barr helped lead the ACRE Act (Access to Credit for Our Rural Economy Act), to passage and enactment by President Trump. This law levels the playing field for community banks by providing a 25 percent tax exclusion on interest earned from qualifying agricultural real estate loans. The expands access to affordable mortgage lending in rural communities and increase access to credit in more than 17,000 rural communities nationwide. This legislation was included in the Big Beautiful Bill that Congressman Barr helped write and get through the Congress to the President’s desk.
Finally, Barr is also leading the Main Street Capital Access Act, legislation to revitalize community bank formation, right-size regulations on small and mid-sized banks, end debanking of lawful businesses, and ensure rural lenders can focus on serving farm families and small businesses instead of navigating excessive red tape.
