BOMBSHELL: Charles Booker’s “Charity” Number One Expense Is Himself

New Report Raises Serious Questions About Booker’s Nonprofit and How Charitable Donations Were Spent

LEXINGTON, KY — A bombshell new report from journalist Matthew Foldi at the Washington Reporter raises troubling questions about Charles Booker’s nonprofit organization, Hood to Holler, including the $174,000 Booker collected in compensation over just two years.

While Booker claims to champion working families and struggling Kentuckians, his own nonprofit’s financial records raise questions about whether the organization prioritized charitable work or Booker’s personal compensation.

According to federal tax filings, Booker paid himself $87,000 in 2020, the organization’s largest reported individual expenditure that year, and another $87,000 in 2021, its second-largest individual expenditure. In total, Booker received $174,000 from Hood to Holler over those two years.

“The biggest expense at Charles Booker’s so-called “charity” was Charles Booker. His salary topped every other expense, and not one penny went to food or health care for Kentuckians in need. Hood to the Holler should be renamed Hood to Holler to Himself. Andy Barr is fighting for Kentucky. Charles Booker is fighting for himself,” said Alex Bellizzi, Communications Director for Barr’s Campaign.

Questions Charles Booker Must Answer:

  • Why did Booker prioritize his own salary over all other expenses at the charity?
  • What percentage of the nonprofit’s expenditures went toward charitable programs versus compensation?
  • What measurable results did the nonprofit deliver for Kentucky families?
