Lexington, KY – Today, the Andy Barr for Senate campaign responded to another disgusting lie from the flailing Nate Morris campaign. On the same day Bloomberg reported that Kentucky and national Republicans are watching the Morris campaign implode, Nate’s allies released an ad distorting Congressman Barr’s America First record on Afghanistan. Barr campaign Communications Director Alex Bellizzi released the following statement:
“This ad is disgusting and exploits an act of terror that killed an American hero. Andy Barr’s position on Afghan refugees is the same as President Trump’s and Vice President JD Vance — help the vetted Afghan allies who fought alongside our troops, while opposing Joe Biden’s reckless program to resettle unvetted migrants. That’s the America First position President Trump laid out in 2021.
“Andy Barr voted against Biden’s resettlement program. The Afghan terrorist who killed a National Guardsmen was let in through a Biden refugee program created without Congressional approval.
“Meanwhile, Nate Morris pledged support to the U.N. for opening borders to Afghan refugees in 2021. This is consistent with Nate’s open borders record, hiring foreigners over Kentuckians at Rubicon through the H1-B visa program and hiring a sanctuary city supporting Mayor to run his failed company. Nate Morris and his team should be ashamed of themselves. Since launching this campaign, they have proven again and again that they will say or do anything to win, no matter how dishonest or disgraceful.”
Here are the facts:
1. Andy had the same position as President Trump on Afghanistan military members who served with Americans coming to our country. Andy supported visas for a small subset of VETTED Afghans who served alongside our troops to fight terrorists.
2. Just like President Trump said on Sean Hannity in August of 2021, “I’m America First, we are going to get our Americans out first, but I also want to help those who helped us.”
3. Vice President JD Vance said, “So yes, let’s help the Afghan’s who helped us, but let’s ensure that we are properly vetting them.”
4. The Afghan terrorist was let into the country in September of 2021 through Biden’s executive refugee program, which was not approved by Congress.
5. Andy voted NO on H.R. 5305, legislation that provided over $6B to resettle over 70,000 Afghan refugees. This program went far beyond helping vetted Afghan wartime allies. Instead, it opened the door to a broad refugee program for Afghans and made them eligible for taxpayer-funded benefits.
a. Senator Marco Rubio, Senator Rand Paul, Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Tom Cotton, and other conservative Senators also voted NO on this bill.
b. Some U.S. Senate Republicans, including Senator Mitch McConnell voted YES on the bill.
6. Meanwhile, Nate Morris ran Rubicon, which in 2021 stated that its corporate values required operating “in alignment with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”
a. That same United Nations declaration states that “everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution.”
b. In 2021, the United Nations also called on member states to “keep their borders open to receive asylum seekers from Afghanistan.”
c. Nate Morris was running a company publicly aligning itself with these globalist principles while now attacking Andy Barr for supporting visas for vetted Afghan allies who fought alongside American troops.
7. Andy Barr and President Trump ARE America First and always will be.
