Barr Responds to Anti-Trump PAC Attacking Him for Backing a Trump-endorsed Border Bill

Lexington, Kentucky—Today, Andy Barr is responding to Nate Morris’ Never Trump PAC “WinItBack” that is running television ads attacking Andy for voting for border security legislation backed by President Donald Trump in 2018. Barr released an ad of his own setting the record straight that he NEVER has and NEVER will vote for amnesty. The Never Trump WinItBack PAC was created to defeat President Trump in the 2024 election and invested millions of dollars to do so.

The full text of Barr’s ad which will air across broadcast and digital platforms in Kentucky is below:

Barr: “The same Never Trump losers who spent millions lying about Trump, are now lying about me. I NEVER supported amnesty, what I supported, was President Trump’s plan.

Barr: “I was with Trump every step of the way, leading the fight to help him build the wall, and fund the largest deportation effort in history.

President Trump: “Andy Barr, good friend of all of ours, thank you Andy.

Barr: “I’m Andy Barr, and I approve this message, because I’ll never support amnesty, but I’ll always support Trump.”

The Never Trump WinItBack Pac and Nate Morris have criticized Andy Barr for supporting President Trump in building the wall during his first term. Andy Barr voted in support of the Securing America’s Future Act of 2018, also known as “Goodlatte I,” written by conservative then-House Judiciary Chairman, Rep. Bob Goodlatte, that moderate Republicans voted down in the House. When President Trump endorsed the Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018, also known as “Goodlatte II,” Andy Barr also supported the bill.

Goodlatte II would have provided nearly $25 billion in funding for Trump’s border wall, and limited legal and illegal immigration. When Goodlatte II failed, Andy Barr then led the legal effort in court to defend President Trump’s authority to build the wall.

Goodlatte II is the same legislation WinItBack and Nate Morris oppose alongside Tampon Tim Walz, Nancy Pelosi, Hakeem Jeffries, Adam Schiff, Maxine Waters, and John Yarmuth, all of whom voted against the bill as House Democrats at the time.

President Trump tweeted out at the time about Goodlatte II ahead of the June 27, 2018 vote: “House Republicans should pass the strong but fair immigration bill, known as Goodlatte II, in their afternoon vote today, even though the Dems won’t let it pass in the Senate. Passage will show that we want strong borders and security while the Dems want open borders = crime. WIN!”
