Andy Barr and Sheriff David Charles Announce Joint Endorsement

Mt. Sterling, Kentucky — Today, Sheriff David Charles (R-KY) and Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) announce their joint endorsement leading into the primaries on May 19th, 2026. Sheriff Charles, who is running for State Representative, running to replace Rep. David Hale, and Andy Barr, the leading candidate for U.S. Senate, are coming together to fight for Kentuckians.

“The 74th Kentucky House District needs Sheriff Charles professionalism, experience, and leadership. I am proud to announce my endorsement of his State Representative campaign and humbled to receive his support as well,” said Barr“He has spent his entire career protecting our communities faithfully, and I have no doubt that he will continue serving all Kentuckians in Frankfort.”

He received the first national law enforcement organization endorsement in the Kentucky race—I think that proves his commitment to serving the people that protect our communities. I know that Andy Barr will make a great Kentucky Senator.” 

Sheriff David Charles is running for Kentucky State Representative in the 74th District. He is a proud alumni of Morehead State University and has been serving his community at the Mt. Sterling Police Department for over 31 years as Patrol Sargent, Detective Sargent, Captain, and most recently Chief of Police. He has also received multiple awards for bravery and meritorious service. Sheriff Charles has proven his commitment to protecting local neighborhoods and prioritizing the welfare of Kentuckians. 

Barr is responsible for passing the Chief Herbert D. Proffitt Act, named in honor of the retired police chief of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, the measure was signed into law by President Donald Trump in December. It updates the Public Safety Officers’ Benefit (PSOB) program to extend benefits to the families of officers who are killed or disabled as a result of their service, even after retirement or separation.

Sheriff Charles joins over 160 major endorsements, more than all other campaigns combined.
