Barr, State and Local Officials Celebrate Louisville’s Withdrawal from the RFG Program

Shepherdsville, Kentucky—Today, Andy Barr, the leading Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, held a press conference to tout the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision to approve Louisville’s withdrawal request from the Reformulated Gas program (RFG). Barr personally pushed for approval of this request several times with the EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and Deputy Administrator David Fotouhi. This decision will save 20-25 cents per gallon of gas for Kentuckians in Louisville.

“Louisville has been paying 20–30 cents more per gallon because of a Washington mandate that no longer made sense,” said Barr. “This week, that changed because of Administrator Zeldin and President Trump. I appreciate Administrator Zeldin and Deputy Administrator Fotouhi for talking through this issue with me and granting this withdrawal request for Louisville. I’m proud to have fought alongside our state legislators and Metro Council members who worked tirelessly for this outcome — and together, we’re delivering lower prices, less red tape, and real relief for Kentucky families and businesses.”

“Getting rid of the Reformulated Gas required is a MAJOR accomplishment for Louisville,” said Kentucky State Representative Jason Nemes (R-HD-33). “This will cut costs at the pump and make the fuel go farther for those filling up in Louisville. Local and state officials in Jefferson County have been fighting this requirement for 2 decades, but thanks to Administrator Lee Zeldin and Congressman Andy Barr, we were finally able to get over the finish line. When it’s cheaper to fill up after February 9th, thank a Republican!”

“I’ve been working since I entered the General Assembly to eliminate this gas tax on the people of Louisville. This took everyone pulling from the same side of the rope at the federal, state, and local level. I’m very grateful for Congressman Barr getting this across the finish line. I hope we can send him to the U.S. Senate,” said Kentucky State Representative Jared Bauman (R-HD-28).

“In my time in the state house and now on the metro council, I have fought big-government regulators on the issue of Reformulated Gas for years,” said Kevin Bratcher (R-District 22), member of the Louisville Metro Council. “This EPA requirement—which raises gas prices and hurts fuel economy for Louisville citizens—is antiquated and unacceptable. By working with Congressman Andy Barr and Administrator Lee Zeldin, we have worked with President Trump’s administration to get rid of RFG once and for all.”
